My current research is broadly focused on understanding the role of soils at large scales, both spatially and temporally. Soils require millennia to form and evolve, however, we still lack an adequate understanding of this process or how this process interacts with other aspects of the Earth's surface, such as vegetation dynamics. The goal of my research is to develop a better understanding of soil evolution in critical zone by 1) understanding the processes and mechanisms that form soil, 2) understanding how soil changes over time and the environmental factors that drive those changes, and 3) developing new approaches that can be used to model soil evolution over geologic time.
